Research
Dr. Kaplan has spent many years conducting research at Stanford University and the University of California Berkeley, and currently collaborates with research teams nationally and internationally. Her research has been published in JAMA Network journals, the American Journal of Psychiatry, Psychological Medicine and other leading journals.
For many years, Dr. Kaplan has explored the ways in which sleep impacts mental health and mental health impacts sleep. Dr. Kaplan's research interests span four (often overlapping) domains: (1) insomnia and hypersomnia in affective disorders; (2) behavioral interventions for sleep disturbances in adults and adolescents; (3) circadian and psychosocial factors impacting sleep in adolescence; and (4) machine learning approaches to population-level sleep patterns. Her research and training have been supported by the National Institute of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Lucile Packard Foundation at Stanford, and other organizations.
